Here's a (mostly complete) NBC News Special Report (subheading: "Return From Camp David") that aired in Chicago over WMAQ Channel 5, interrupting the premiere broadcast of the 1976 version of King Kong, for cryin' out loud. This Special Report went on for almost 32 long minutes and just when it seemed to be wrapping up, the tape ran out.
The anchor, reporting outside the White House, was John Chancellor, and the big story was the peace deal (a.k.a. the "Camp David Accords") mapped out by President Jimmy Carter between Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat and Israel Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and completed at Camp David earlier in the day after 13 long days of secret negotiations. (The deal would be formally signed in March 1979, and Sadat and Begin would win a joint Nobel Peace Prize.)

Once inside the East Room (with the President at center, Sadat to his right [frame left] and Begin to his left [frame right], Carter is the first to make remarks (for eight minutes) about the breakthroughs made in reaching this accord, followed by Sadat (who speaks for more than three minutes) and then Begin (who speaks for over ten minutes in both English and Hebrew; a brief shot of Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan among the gathered guests is shown during Begin's comments). Begin then shakes Carter's hand, and afterwards embraces Sadat.
After the speeches are over, Carter begins the process of formalizing the accords, with John explaining the process of how the accords will be ratified before being finalized. The President then explains the nuts and bolts of the terms of the agreement, and future negotiations, before having the two leaders sign on the dotted lines.
With the formalities over, Carter once again shakes hands with Begin and Sadat, then the two leaders shake hands as the President looks on; Chancellor, before the tape runs out, notes that despite the smiles, the leaders of Israel and Egypt didn't really get along all that well.
